Remember the frustration these floppy, freebie records would cause? If they weren’t already ruined by the time you cut them off the packaging they were affixed to, getting them to actually play on a turntable seemed like a miracle if sound actually came out. Usually the hole was drilled in the wrong place, and even after you’d place the suggested coin near the center the needle would still snag the record like a claw.
Fortunately, some people grew up, and not only saved these “flexis” and figured out how to play them, but also turned them into mp3 files to share with the rest of us.
“Way Out Junk” has a full set of three discs that came in specially marked packages of Boo Berry, Frankenberry, or Count Chocula cereal.
The one of most interest, of course, is called “Count Chocula Goes to Hollywood” which you can download here.
In this record Count Chocula wins a contest to appear on the TV western “Haunted House on the Range”. He thinks he’s going to be the star, but they hire him to be the stunt man and the same zany antics ensue that always do when a cartoon character becomes an unwilling stunt man.
Its nothing that will put you in the Halloween mood, but it might make you reminisce watching Saturday morning cartoons with a big bowl of cereal in your lap.
