Los Angeles may have underground tunnels for lizard people, but when it comes to caves, we’re sorely lacking.
Sure, there are some small holes along the Palos Verdes coastline that may be accessible during low tide, but no opportunities for spelunking, even in Angeles Crest National Forest that I could find. Of course, that doesn’t stop L.A. from cheating and having perhaps the most famous cave of all – the Bat Cave. I say cheating because the Bronson Caves, which served as Batman’s HQ on the Adam West tv series, isn’t a real cave – its man made. Located in Griffith Park, the cave is actually one end of a tunnel that was part of a quarry that seized operation in the late 1920s, and has since been a favorite location for film and TV shoots.
I bring all this up because I was asked to pitch a contest for 1800 Tequila – the “Win the Ultimate Man Cave” Sweepstakes. I originally was hoping to provide a map of LA’s creepiest caves, but, as mentioned, there just wasn’t much to work with.
However, if you actually win the “Win the Ultimate Man Cave” Sweepstakes, you’ll have $10,000 to outdo Batman in the confines of your own home. I figure out of anyone else, horror film fans can do a man cave justice more than any run of the mill jock or video gamer, as the horror junkie truly appreciates what could go down in the confines of the dark.
Last day to enter is this Saturday, so click on over and spend the two minutes to toss in your name. 21 and over of course.
And if you have a moment, leave a comment and let me know how you’d spend that $10,000 for your man cave…
And full disclosure: I was sent a bottle of 1800 Tequila when they suggested I write about the contest.
