Move over, Hollywood Forever. This year’s award for the best graveyard embracing its creepiness is the Mountain View Mausoleum and Cemetery in Altadena, where Wicked Lit is staging their annual production of plays based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, and other authors of classic horror stories. Taking full advantage of the location, audiences will follow each performance to a variety of settings inside the mausoleum and among the headstones and graves.

Wicked Lit offers two alternating programs, providing variety for anyone who wants to attend on multiple nights. “Program A” brings back the popular lineup from 2010 of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado,” H. P. Lovecraft’s “The Unnamable,” and Charles Dickens’ “The Chimes,” while the all new “Program B” presents audiences with Robert Louis Stevenson’s “The Body Snatcher,” M.R. James’ “Casting the Runes,” and Mark Twain’s “A Ghost Story.”

Wicked Lit opens October 21st, and runs through November 5th. Visit their site for tickets and more info on the shows and other projects from the theatre company.

If you’re attending Saturday or Sunday, Mountain View Cemetery is also hosting the October Shadows Halloween Art Show through October 30th. Hours are Saturdays from 11am to 5pm, and Sundays 11am to 3pm – time it right and check out both on the same day, and check out a nearby Altadena restaurant for dinner in between.
