As summer draws to a close, if not weatherwise at least as far as putting away the white trousers and shoes is concerned, what better way to celebrate than taking in a movie at a cemetery about creepy extraterrestrials that will never allow you to look at a plate of mash potatoes the same way again? Bad carbs! BAD!!
Hollywood Forever, Los Angeles’ friendly neighborhood graveyard, and Cinespia are screening Close Encouters of the Third Kind this Saturday evening, August 30th. And Sunday night it gets even scarier after the jump… [click to continue...]

A George Pal tribute at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and a double feature of “Return of the Living Dead” and “Feast,” both tomorrow night*, are the only events on this week’s Creepy Calendar.
However, our events section is now open, listing these and dozens of other events for the discriminating Halloween buff from now thru early November.
Additional festivals, screenings, and other happenings will be added as they come in. If you know of anything we’ve missed, please email us at creepyla@gmail.com.
*The double feature will also screen Thursday night.

Universal Horror Nights announced today new features for this year’s Halloween proceedings. Full press release after the jump. Here are the highlights:
- A walk thru maze of “a painstakingly surreal recreation of the notorious house at 1428 Elm Street” called “Nightmare on Elm Street: Home Sweet Hell.”
- “Terror Tram: The Nightmare Tour” doubles the length of the tram tour, incorporating mazes in addition to the usual, but always cool, walk thru of the “War of the Worlds” and “Psycho” sets.
- One of the “scare zones” between mazes will be populated with characters from “The Strangers” - think average dressed people with innocent looking masks. And knives.
- The new Simpsons Ride will be open for business, as will “Revenge of the Mummy.” The Jurassic Park ride will also run… sans lights. And the “Water World” show becomes “Slaughter World.”
- Attendees can also take a break from the screams and liberal use of smoke machines to see a new “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure” show.
Full details follow.

This Tuesday, join Robert “Freddy Krueger” England for the Los Angeles premiere of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
The premiere is not only FREE but without an RSVP list! On the downside, not only is there no stadium seating, there are no seats at all! So, unless you like sitting on damp, grassy cemetery plots (like us), we recommend bringing beach blankets or lawn chairs. (unfortunately, Hollywood Forever also lacks a concession stand, so picnic baskets or other treats you bring from home are also encouraged.)
Synopsis: As a child Jack Brooks witnessed the brutal murder of his family. Now a young man he struggles with a pestering girlfriend, therapy sessions that resolve nothing, and night classes that barely hold his interest. After unleashing an ancient curse, Jack’s Professor undergoes a transformation into something not-quite- human, and Jack is forced to confront some old demons… along with a few new ones.
See the official flier here.
Note: Cinespia, the regular weekend screening series at Hollywood Forever, is showing Phantasm tomorrow (Sunday) night. More info on this and other cemetery screenings, check out their site.

If you’re checking in on Creepy from time to time, you’ve probably also noticed some craziness with the site layout. Simply put, we’re in the midst of a redesign. Be assured that the site will look horrifyingly perfect by our official launch on September 1st.
Through the rest of August, we’ll be posting sporadically, and will be working on polishing the site. But come September, expect all sorts of Halloween weirdness and supernatural oddities on a daily basis.
In the meantime, if you know of any Halloween, horror, or other related stories or events, or would possibly join the CreepyLA team as a writer/blogger, drop us a line at creepyla@gmail.com.
