A Night In Hell

by Noir Vixen on October 27, 2008

Because Halloween falls on a Friday, this entire week is nothing but wall to wall parties.  Denizens of the City of Angels can partake of many flavors of the holiday each night of the week from mainstream celebrations to the darkest of worlds that suddenly become vogue during this one time every year.

On Wednesday night, start your festivities by taking a trip to Hell, a total overload of sins and senses, taking place at Ivar (6356 Hollywood Blvd)  in the heart of Hollywood.  Highlights include the Freakshow Deluxe performing twisted sideshow acts, concerts by Hollywood 77 and Stolen Hearts, as well as trick or treating at various stations through out the club  (Be sure to get your Halloween basket at the door!)

Explore dark corners full of sensual, intense fetish play and get a little culture by strolling through the dark art gallery on display while sipping on absinthe served up in your favorite fashion.

And yes, for you costume divas, there is a contest with many prizes for killer costumes.  Be sure to arrive early to enjoy the free vodka drinks courtesy of Sobieski from 9 - 10 pm!

Hell takes place from 9 pm - 2 am and is 21+.  Cover is $10.  For more information visit http://www.Industry-LA.com.

An Evening of Burlesque

by Mighty Worm on October 20, 2008

I may be impugning my jocky manhood here, but I’ve always preferred burlesque shows to strip clubs. It’s partly the difference in atmosphere. As much as I like naked ladies, I don’t really like sitting next to a bunch of horny, drunk dudes. Call me crazy.

But really I think it’s simply the attitude. Burlesque isn’t exactly super popular in this century, so no one is doing it for the $. The girls who are doing burlesque are doing it cause they want to. They’re having fun. So I have fun. It’s nice to know they won’t go back stage and cry later.

What does any of this have to do with Halloween? Well, Dollhouse Productions is staging L’hopital du Grand Guignol, an “evening of grotesque titillation inspired by the French theatre of horror!”

I saw them last night at the new Bordello Bar (formerly Little Pedro’s), which was a great venue for a very fun show. I recommend. [click to continue...]

Creepy Questions for Creature Feature

by Creepy on October 3, 2008

Creature Feature terrorizes the Whiskey on October 28th for their annual Halloween party.

Creature Feature terrorizes the Whiskey on October 28th for their annual Halloween party.

If you need a soundtrack for October, be sure to dig up “The Greatest Show Unearthed” by L.A.’s own musicians of the macabre, Creature Feature. The “two-fiend band”, known individually as Erik X and Curtis Rx, describes themselves as “a band that forces you remember why you used to sleep with the lights on.” (listen to some samples here to see if you’d agree)

What were some of your favorite Halloween costumes growing up?

Erik X: Probably the year I handmade an exact replica of the “Edward Scissorshands” costume. It took me six months to make and I actually shaved my eyebrows off for authenticity, the weeks after that were a little awkward—without eyebrows.

Curtis Rx: As a little kid, one year I dressed up as a Ghostbuster and I had one of those store bought toy backpacks, I also glued some other weird pieces onto it to make it look cooler, like old calculators, parts of broken clocks, etc. I also used an old pair of gardening goggles and glued paper towel tubes and random stuff to it to make Ghostbuster goggles. Now, In theory this all sounds cool, until it started sprinkling. By the end of the night everything I attached to it was melting off and I left parts of my costume laying all over the streets for miles, but I still got a pillowcase full of candy.

What are some of the creepiest parts of Los Angeles?

Curtis Rx: There are a ton of places in Los Angeles that become creepy after dark and that’s what we like about it. No trip to Los Angeles is complete without visiting “Hollywood Forever” cemetery, the house used in the filming of “Nightmare On Elm Street”, and the “Roosevelt Hotel” where you can stare into the legendary mirror that is said to hold the restless ghost of Marilyn Monroe.
