From LAist:
See cult-movie legend/director Jack Hill at the Egyptian tonight for a double feature celebrating the release of the scary masterpiece, Spider Baby on DVD! Tonight’s festivities include a screening of Spider Baby (1968) & Pit Stop (1969).
Besides classic horror star Lon Cheney, Jr., Spider Baby also stars Sid Haig years before he became a fried chicken hawking killer clown in House of a 1000 Corpses.
Three children of the Merrye family live in a decaying rural mansion with their guardian and chauffeur Bruno (Lon Chaney, Jr.). The children suffer from “Merrye Syndrome”, a genetic affliction unique to members of their family, which cause them to begin to mentally regress starting in late childhood. When two distant relatives and their lawyer arrive to attempt to take control of the property, Bruno’s shaky control over the children is lost, with both startling and amusing results.
I’ve never seen the movie, but the title song is a fantastic gem. Read more about the movie AND hear the theme song over on the blog of Dr. Mysterian.
