Actor Neil Patrick Harris, the Emmy Award winning star of hit TV series “How I Met Your Mother,” the “Harold & Kumar” films, and Joss Whedon’s web musical “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog,” has joined the team of “Delusion: The Crimson Queen” as a co-producer.
Harris, who is also president of the board of directors for the Magic Castle, will help lead the creative team behind the haunted attraction. Harris also bring his experience producing the popular “Accomplice: Hollywood” interactive play/scavenger hunt.
Produced by Neil Patrick Harris and Jon Braver, DELUSION: The Crimson Queen marks the follow-up to 2011’s “Best Haunted Attraction” (Fox LA) and “Hottest Ticket in LA” (NPR). The Crimson Queen seeks to further Haunted Play’s concept of interactive horror theatre through disturbing immersion, suspenseful storytelling and explosive stunt work. Jon Braver (The Dark Knight Rises, Priest, Indiana Jones) writes and directs this year’s show once again.
“Haunted Play: Delusion” had its first run last year inside an apparently dilapitaded old mansion in the West Adams neighborhood. The twenty minute interactive play had guests escorted from room to room by a cast of characters with varying levels of sanity. Elaborate stunts topped an impressive level of production value – lighting, sound, and set design – to create an immersive haunted house experience. Unlike other Halloween attractions, the “monsters” (in this case, patients at an asylum) had no issue touching guests, and in turn guests are prompted in some scenes to interact with the guests.
The Haunted Play will return this year to the same house, but reps from the attraction tell CreepyLA the play will be twice as long, and an adjoining bar area will turn the attraction from being a short visit to an entire evening of entertainment. “Delusion: The Crimson Queen” will open in late September.
