I don’t know when this happened, but the zombie themed 5k run, “Run For Your Lives,” has expanded its San Diego/Los Angeles event to two days. While Saturday, October 20th’s activities are completely still sold out, there is still space to register as a runner for Sunday, October 21st.
For those not in the know, “Run For Your Lives” is a 5k run that works more like a zombie video game come to life.
Besides a run of the mill, Tough Mudder style obstacle course of mud pits, mountains made from bales of hay, and pools of blood, runners have the added challenge of evading “zombies” along the course. Runners have three “health flags” hanging from their bodies that the zombies attempt to snag… runners who lose all their tags should consider themselves dead, and their final time penalized accordingly. “Health packs” are spread along the course for runners to pick up and replenish their lost tags.
Zombies can either hobble along, “Night of the Living Dead” style, or gun after runners at full speed, a la “28 Days Later.”
Registration fees start at $78, and there is apparently still a need for volunteers. Spectator tickets are sold out for Saturday, and $20 for Sunday, first come first serve. The run takes place in Temecula, about 90 minutes drive south of Los Angeles.
