The Los Angeles Vampires October Meet Up is this Saturday, October 20th, so if you are a bloodsucking beast of darkness and you’re feeling a bit isolated and misunderstood, this is your chance to engage with kindred spirits. I won’t divulge the location, but if you join their online group you can get the details.
They recommend casual dress, and children (!) are welcome. “We occasionally have enough children to seat them at their own table.” Also, if you’re a first timer and need a description of their appearance to find them once your there, they assure you on their site that “We’re pretty easy spot.”
30 Days of Night, and the new crimson tide after the jump…
Vampire appreciation reaches critical mass today with the opening of the movie, 30 Days of Night. With reviews split evenly on Rotten Tomatoes between the likes of “a bloody mess” (LA Times) and “a symphony of shocks” (Minn. Star Tribune😉 and yesterday’s LAT piece about audience testing-mania crazily declaring it this weekend’s box office winner the week before it opens, it’s the biggest wave in the current crimson tide.
To wit, True Blood, Alan Ball’s Southern Gothic vampire series is gearing up for its HBO run; Moonlight, the crime-solving-vampire-yuppies-in-love series running on CBS, seems to be finding an audience after a rocky start; Bite Me Magazine, the British vampire journal, is raising its shadowless profile here; and, well, it’s Halloween.
