For our first Creepy Questions of the year, we turned to the New Beverly Cinema’s hostess with the mostest, Julia Marchese.
What are your favorite horror films? Which movie has most scared the crap out of you?
My favorite horror movie of all time is Nightmare on Elm Street. It is pretty much perfect. (No remakes, please) But the scariest movie is Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I had a sore neck for days after watching that movie from holding myself so tense throughout. I am a huge gore hound and could talk about horror movies for days, so next time you’re at the Bev, let’s chat!
Are the rumors true the New Beverly has its own ghost?
I, thankfully, have never seen one, but lots of the other employees have. It is in the form of an old man sleeping in the back row, and will simply disappear. Keep your eyes peeled!
What are some of the creepiest parts of Los Angeles?
Driving through down town at night is terrifying. It’s like a zombie movie. Everything is closed and there is no one around anywhere. You just expect a huge pack of the undead to come running and screaming at you from a side street. Creepy.
What were some of your favorite Halloween costumes growing up?
I grew up in Las Vegas and Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. I was Cyndi Lauper when I was about six and we sprayed my hair orange and pink. It was pretty punk rock. Alot of my costumes are movie based. Ive been Jason Vorhees, Donnie Darko, Ash’s sister from Evil Dead.
Any ideas for what you’ll dress up as this year?
My dream is to get a large group of friends together to be characters from Twin Peaks. I want to be Audrey Horne.
Where is the scariest place you’ve ever made out?
In an abandoned church from the 1200’s in England.
If it turns out your life is a movie, which undead character do you think you’ll come back as?
I’d want to be Evil Ed from Fright Night. Simply rad.
Describe your perfect Halloween.
Start off trick or treating, of course, cause free candy rocks. Then onto a huge swanky party, with an astounding spread of food, the best costumes and hot shirtless men serving drinks. Then onto a late night diner for some pie because I love going out on Halloween and seeing people in ridiculous costumes eating or driving.
The New Beverly’s slate is routinely filled with classic horror films. For a peek at their Halloween selections, check out our film listings, or keep an eye on the New Bev’s calendar.
