On Saturday, October 24th, thousands of zombies in dozens of cities worldwide will rise to eat your brains dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” in unison, as part of the fourth annual “Thrill the World.” The event started in 2006 after dance instructor Ines Markelle of Toronto, Ontario organized 62 people to dance to “Thriller,” earning a Guiness World Record.
Flash forward two years later, Markelle’s “Thrill the World” project grew to 4,179 people in 72 cities in 10 different nations performing “Thriller” simultaneously, dressed and madeup as zombies. In 2008, Hollywood & Highland had hundreds of undead dancing to represent Los Angeles’ participation.
Partly in tribute to the recent passing of Michael Jackson, and probably just because the whole thing is badass, “Thrill the World” hopes to break the world record again this year.
If you’d like to join in, you’ll 1) need to register, 2) participate in one or two practice sessions to learn the dance, 3) get together your makeup and outfit, and finally, 4) attend the dance to be held at an as yet undecided location on Saturday, October 24th from about 2pm to 7pm (the actual performance will be at 5:30pm, PST).
If just one performance isn’t enough for you, Thrill the World LA will also do the dance at the Long Beach Comic-Con on October 3rd, and on court at the Los Angeles Clippers game Halloween night at Staples Center.
