Ghetto Gloss, the gallery that pulled up its roots in Silver Lake last month and moved to Melrose and Seward, is continuing its busy schedule of bizarro-glam events and happenings. Next up is Bloody Prom Party, which will mash up Halloween and Christmas (the second scariest holiday in my book.) It also has the potential to send dozens of bloody prom zombies into the streets for Halloween.
It works like this: Part one is on October 15th, when GG will have a rack of flamboyant vintage prom duds (dresses and suits) for sale. You pull together the perfect outfit and then go under the brush with an on-site make up artist who will spackle on foundation and powder à la Carrie. Then you stand in front of a prom backdrop where a bucket of fake blood will rain down on you as an in-house photographer snaps away.
Part two will involve the season when all is merry and bright– a display of the best Bloody Prom Party photos in Ghetto Gloss’s “Twelve Days of Christmas” exhibit in December. What better gift to give than a fine art photograph of yourself all dressed up and splattered with blood?
Bloody Prom Party, begins at 8 PM Thursday, Oct. 15th and includes a screening of Brian De Palma’s classic horror film, Carrie. Bloody Carries will be served.
