“YES, I DID THE UNTHINKABLE,” Charles Phoenix wrote in his most recent weekly newsetter. “I left my turkey tiki in the fridge for two years! …I know, IT’S SHOCKING! Did he smell? You would think so, but no.”

After you get past the fact that “The King of Retro” made a turkey meatload in the shape of a tiki head for Thanksgiving two years ago, give some consideration to how proud he is that he managed to keep it from stinking up his fridge ever since. For 717 days, exactly. And he’s proud of this.

I’m not suggesting he’s turned from collecting vintage slides to human body parts or anything, I just think LA’s finest may want to check out Charles’ kitchen.

For everyone else, if you want to see Charles in public, he’ll be presenting his Retro Holiday Slideshow around Los Angeles on the following dates:

  • Pasadena, CA – Sat 12/5 Neighborhood Church 8pm
  • Pomona, CA – Sat 12/12 National Hot Rod Museum 8pm
  • Hollywood, CA – Sun 12/20 Egyptian Theater 2pm

Foodies note: Charles’ recipe for a tiki turkey loaf can be found here.
