Creepy Questions for Tom LaBonge

A native of Silver Lake whose family first came to Los Angeles in the late 1880s, Council Member Tom LaBonge has been in public service since his teen years when he was on Mayor Tom Bradley’s Youth Advisory Council.

I first witnessed the human dynamo also known informally as “Mr. Los Angeles” at a jammed community meeting he led a few weeks after the Griffith Park fire in May. His outpouring of enthusiasm for the recovery and his empathy for the distraught (like me) made it into a genuinely moving spectacle that I will never forget. We need more guys like him.

What do you love about Halloween in Los Angeles?

When kids go trick-or-treating in all neighborhoods of the city, it’s a great sight to see. I have kids and I never miss a Halloween in Silver Lake, where I’ve lived all my life practically.

What did you dress up as for Halloween when you were a kid?

A hobo.

Any hints on what your costume will be this year?

A traffic safety officer because that’s what I do every year…escort kids safely to cross the street.

What is your favorite scary movie?

The Thing.
