Kustom Voodoo

If Medusa wore hair accessories, there’s no doubt she’d be accessorizing with Kustom Voodoo’s line of bows, barrettes, and veils that feature hand cast skulls with and a colorful Dia De Los Muertos style. Jessica Monares handmakes her collection in East Los Angeles, “for ladies who enjoy looking good whilst being bad.”

“As a teen I was constantly seeking out unique trimmings, toys and other small objects to adorn my hair when attending creepy events like Day of the Dead celebrations,” Monares says of the origins of her line, which she started in 2003.

“The gradual melding of subcultures and ‘scenes’ in LA over the past 10 or so years has really made my product appeal to a much wider audience and bring it out of the seasonal realm,” she says, citing the rapidly growing popularity of Day of the Dead as an example.

Her items range from $3-$15, and can be purchased online here.
