Learn makeup effects from "The Walking Dead" professionals

Spend the Saturday before Halloween with a deepdive special effects makeup class being taught by the people who make zombies for the “The Walking Dead” as well as feature credits on the upcoming “The Hobbit” films, “The Transfomers” and “Spider-Man” franchises, “I Am Legend,” and more.

The class will focus on the technique of transfers that allow Makeup Artists to quickly apply all sorts of fantastic effects quickly via pre-made molds that can be applied directly to the skin. Participants will get hands-on experience and can take home a kit filled with transfers to make-up themselves and their friends that evening or on Halloween!

Taught by makeup effects veteran Brian Hillard (who was also the “Bloated Well Zombie” in “The Walking Dead”) and reps from KNB Special Effects, the class is being assembled by the equality awesome LA Makerspace community, pretty much guaranteeing this may appeal to the general public, but will satisfy anyone seeking a professional and educational experience.

During our makeup effects classes, participants will learn the state of the art in Makeup Special Effects from some of the masters in the art with credits ranging from Walking Dead to War Of The Worlds to Transformers.
The class will focus on the technique of “transfers” that allow Makeup artists to quickly apply all sorts of fantastic effects quickly via pre-made molds that can be applied directly to the skin.
Participants will get hands on experience and can take home a kit filled with transfers to make up themselves and their friends that evening or on Halloween!
KNB will also show their extensive reel and talk about the business of special effects in Los Angeles and around the world.

* Brian Hillard – The Pacific, No Country for Old Men, Predators, The Departed, War Of The Worlds, I Am Legend and the upcoming films The Hobbit, Django Unchained, and OZ: The Great and Powerful
* KNB Special Effects – The Walking Dead, Transformers, Spiderman

Kids as young as 10 welcome (under 13 must come with adult). Tickets are $25, which includes the cost of materials. Upgrade to a $35 to also walk away with a take home kit.

On Sunday – a second special effects makeup class will also be held at the Makerspace with instructors Greg Bartolos and Christy Thomas. Bartolos was  the makeup supervisor of LEPRECHAUN and other films including Godzilla, Brain Dead and Darkman. Gabe is also a gifted teacher and visual artist who has collaborated with Matthew Barney and Tony Clifton.
