“King Kong” director Peter Jackson revealed during ComicCon that Universal Hollywood was building an ambitious new Kong attraction that “will feature an epic battle between the 35-foot-tall ape and a pair of T-Rex dinosaurs.”
LA Times Funland blog reports the ride will open sometime next year:
In the new attraction, Jackson said the tram will drive onto a motion-simulator base inside a darkened soundstage surrounded by eight Cinerama screens that envelop riders with a wraparound view of Skull Island, according to Ain’t It Cool News.
“You’re getting buffeted around and you’re sliding down towards a chasm and Kong is thumping the hell out of the tyrannosauruses as they’re trying to grab tourists out of the trams,” said Jackson, according to Sci-Fi Wire.
News of the attraction comes on the heels of news that an “official” prequel, “Kong: King of Skull Island,” has been greenlit by Spirit Pictures after purchasing movie rights from family of Merian C. Cooper, who co-directed the 1933 original, and story rights from the 2004 illustrated novel by Joe Devito and Brad Strickland. There is no indication that Universal Studios will be associated with this new production, which is still early in the financing and development stages. More at Bloody Disgusting.
