The World 3-D Movie Expo kicks off tonight at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, with a stacked lineup including a number of horror features and shorts presented the way they were meant to be seen. The series runs daily through Sunday, September 15th.
Here are the CreepyLA highlights:
Friday, September 6th
- 9:30pm: “House of Wax” (1953) starring Vincent Price!
Saturday, September 7th
- 11am: “The Maze” (1953). From the program: “Most of the story takes place in a moody dark castle, emphasized in B&W 3-D – fans of inventive Fifties B&W horror flicks like William Castle’s 13 GHOSTS and HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL will definitely go for this.”
- 7:15pm: “Creature from the Black Lagoon” (1954) shown using it’s original stereophonic format… not with the red and green glasses that besmirched the image of 3-D for decades.
- 9:45pm: “Jaws 3-D” (1983). Jaws eats visitors at a Sea World style theme park. In 3-D. Need we say more?
Monday, September 9th
- 9:00pm: “Boo Moon” a Casper the Friendly Ghost animated short (8 minutes), which will be either before or after “Phantom of the Rue Morgue” (1954).
Friday, September 13th
- 9:45pm: “The Mad Magician” (1954) with Vincent Price in the titular role “forced to kill again and again.”
Most of the films are presented in “dual projection,” so whatever you do, DO NOT buy the projectionists drinks before the films or during the often technically required intermissions. Tickets and info.
